– NO SPOILERS –
As a lifelong Spider-Man lover I have been so excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming ever since it was announced that Marvel and Sony had teamed up. We got our first look at Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in last years Captain America: Civil War and now he’s got his own film!!!
Spider-Man: Homecoming has had a lot of pressure with having to be original because there’s already been two other Spider-Men! And let’s get it straight out of the way. Spider-Man: Homecoming is the best Spider-Man film since Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2.
Let’s start with the acting and characters. Tom Holland is my favourite Spider-Man. He looks (and is) young, he’s a very talented actor and really plays Peter Parker and Spider-Man well! Next we have Michael Keaton’s Bat– I mean Vulture, the villain of Spider-Man: Homecoming. As most of you would know Michael Keaton has played two other flying superheroes, Batman and Birdman. Now he’s a flying villain. Michael Keaton at first is glance is a funny choice because of who he has played in the past but when watching the film you realise he’s perfect for the role. The Vulture is probably one of my favourite MCU villains. He actually gets depth and in a way a story.
Next on our list is Ned played by Jacob Batalon. Jacob is one of the funniest actors on the film no matter what scene he’s in or who else is in it. Ned is Peter’s friend and finds out that he’s Spider-Man. Ned’s character doesn’t really change throughout the film but I think that we will get to see more of him in later movies. Robert Downey Jr. Has been Iron Man for so long you’d think of Tony Stark before you think of Robert when you see his face. Iron Man was one of my main concerns when going to see this film but do not be worried at all. He isn’t in it as much as the trailers make it out to be.
Marisa Tomei is also in this film and she really makes her character her own. A lot of people think that she’s too young to be Aunt May because of the previous Spider-Man films and comics but I don’t think that her being old is something that is needed. Marisa gives Aunt May humour and doesn’t make her the typical old person who gives you great advice when you really need it. Laura Harrier plays Liz Allan, one of Peter’s love interests from the comics that hasn’t been seen in the movies. Laura doesn’t get a lot of screen time but when she is you really feel like you’re watching actual teenagers rather then people who’re saying lines given by adults.
Lastly Zendaya plays Michelle. Michelle is another funny character. I feel like she’s a version of Peter who didn’t get bitten by the spider. Zendaya does a really good job and like Jacob is one of the funniest characters on screen.
The action in this film is really cool. You are always on the edge of your seat anticipating every punch. But the action isn’t one of the main parts of the film. High School is. Peter Parker spends most of his days at High School waiting for the day to end so he can go and fight crime and that’s one of the best parts of the film. To see Peter balance between himself and Spidey.
Last of all this film is possibly the best Spider-Man film ever. I might have to watch Spider-Man 2 again to see if it stands up. Everything from the actors and comedy to the teenage life is on point in this film.
